Finally, after countless references to Nanny State from Brew Dog on this website, the long-awaited review is here. In the ever-expanding world of non-alcoholic beers, Nanny State undoubtedly holds a special place. This beer has often been described as epic and rightfully so. It is said that the beer was initially released in 2009 with an ABV of 1.1%. A year later the ABV was dropped to its current 0.5%. It existed before many non alcoholic beers, and even craft beer in Europe back then was not a huge thing. It is definitely one of the OGs of non alcoholic craft beers.
Brewdog is a craft brewery from Scotland that was founded in 2007.
Tasting Notes
One of the first things that grabbed my attention about this beer was the colour. I thought it would be lighter but it has a beautiful dark golden colour that I like. The head looks nice too but disappears after a minute or so. Very bubbly.
For some reason, I felt the aroma of this can was a bit more grainy than the last can I had. The flavor is still the same. It has quite a nice body to it although you definitely feel it’s a non alcoholic beer. The Nanny States contains both wheat and rye which is quite interesting. The wheat gives sort of a crispiness to the beer while the rye gives it a distinct rye flavour. I do think they could have added a bit more hops to it but it is still a very tasty beer. If you just want a basic non alcoholic pale ale on a hot day this is definitely one of the best options you have.
Nanny State Calories

Our Brewdog Nanny State Verdict
The slogan of this beer is “No Alcohol, No Compromise“. I do think it has a bit of compromise, but only as much as the actual alcohol content which is 0.5%. it is a very drinkable beer that I can drink any time of the day. Personally, I would like to have a little bit more hops added to it but I understand it’s not an IPA. It’s a brilliant beer and one of the best non alcoholic pale ales we have reviewed.
Our Rating: 38/50
