The mouthfeel might be a bit too thin. Flavorwise it still tastes like a beer though.

Brooklyn Brewery probably does not need much of an introduction. It’s one of the most famous craft beer breweries in the world. You can find their beers in pretty much every nook and cranny of our planet.

Brooklyn Brewery was founded in 1988. This is a review of their Special Effects IPA. It’s in the same series as the Special Effects Hoppy Lager we have previously reviewed.

Tasting Notes

The Special Effects IPA is so hazy you can see it clearly through the brown bottle. Which is a sentence that probably doesn’t make much sense. Poured just as hazy as I expected. Looks like some orange/lime juice.

Funnily enough, the beer aroma is one of no body. It’s a pretty odd thing to say but you can just feel the mouthfeel is going to be very light on this one.

I was correct on that and it definitely does not have much body. Medium-low carbonation and I wonder if they could up it a bit. I feel a bit higher carbonation would cover the thin mouth feel.

Special Effects IPA Calories and Nutritional Facts

Brooklyn Brewery says the calories in the Special Effects IPA are under 100 per bottle. Some other sources say it’s just over. We believe in what Brooklyn is saying but we did not find an exact calorie amount. It is safe to say that is still a low calorie non alcoholic craft beer.

It is vegan but not gluten-free.

The ABV is 0.5 percent and the IBU is 40.

Special Effects IPA Rating

There are both nice and less nice aspects of this beer. The mouthfeel might be a bit too thin. Flavorwise it still tastes like a beer though. Just a very light one. Tastes like fruit juice mixed with water. They could have done better but I wouldn’t pour it out.
