I got pretty overwhelmed with my first taste.
Introduction
I got the idea of reviewing this alcohol-free Pilsner by reading the popular Finnish beer blog Olutkellari. There the Bier Baron was praising the Alkoholiton Pils and the Kukko IPA 0.3% which we have also reviewed.
This non-alcoholic Pilsner is brewed by Finnish brewery Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas. The last confusing word would be translated something like “factory of refreshing drinks”. The brewery was founded in 1995.
Tasting Notes
As seen in the picture, beautiful head but a terrible pour from me. I have to say the beer looks great. Just by the looks, you would never know it’s a non-alcoholic beer. Too many NA beers are struggling with the appearance and just look a bit odd. This one looks fantastic.
The initial aroma is just like any lager or pilsner. Nothing really stands out.
I got pretty overwhelmed with my first taste though. I had expected something very light which is the case with many NA craft beers. Not this one as the different tastes really explode in your mouth.
It feels like they’ve just crammed the beer with hops which is quite unusual for this type of beer. Noble hops in action, that’s for sure, but plenty of them. At least you can’t say that this beer is bland. It is also quite bitter. I think all of this has just been done to cover up the lack of alcohol. Maybe it’s not balanced in that sense but I don’t really mind. The taste is good and you won’t get the feeling of drinking some carbonated water.

Kukko Alkoholiton Pils Rating
The Pils from Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas is a surprisingly tasty beer. It really packs a punch. While we are a bit conflicted by this much flavour in a Pilsner, we really don´t mind because at least it tastes like beer. This beer is also easy to find in Finnish grocery stores, which is of course an advantage.
